The year was 1967. Canada's Centennial Year. A time to celebrate the past. A time for new beginnings. And it was also the year that; a certain roving troubadour, one remarkable woman, an Ottawa Valley town and a hotel that exists there all came together to make history.
Canadian country music icon, Stompin' Tom Connors refers to the century old Mississippi Hotel (that still stands guard on the corner of Bridge Street and Lake Avenue although it's name has been changed to The Carleton Heritage Inn)) in Carleton Place Ontario as the "Grand Ole Lady." And he has good reason to have fond memories of this treasured Ottawa Valley landmark.

The city came to be over 60 years ago when the first uranium mine was opened there. Before that only bush, lakes, moose and other wildlife inhabited the area.

Allow yourself a disciplined routine six-days-a-week, and one day you can be different. Be moderate in all that you do. Enjoy your food.
What's the purpose of education? To prepare children for life. Great answer but what does it mean? To teach them how to change the oil in a car? To teach them how to buy insurance? To teach them how to play blackjack? All those are, or can be, part of life. And, yes, that is a form of education but we have obviously strayed so let us go back and rephrase the question. After all, if you want to get an answer you must ask the proper question.
There was definitely some cold hard cash handed out at last night's (Jan. 26th) town council meeting. The mayor and council approved and/or have decided to move forward on several initiatives. Some of these are official town business while others are personal acts of generosity on the part of the mayor and some councillors.
We all know that running a business have their ups and downs. The challenges are numerous. We are being stretched, physically, mentally, emotionally. The circumstances we experience have an impact on our relationships, our environment, our client base, even markets and scale of economies, our finances. It can change our perception on things and even have an impact on how we behave. Life can change so fast with the dire consequences of increased stress and decreased health issues.
